Found in Translation is our newest book club which started in late 2025.
The group meets on the third Wednesday of every alternate month from 5pm to 6.30pm in the bookshop (please note new timing for 2026).
Books will be chosen in advance and will rotate around the globe; specifically with the aim of looking at how words are interpreted in translation.
JOIN THE CLUB
The book club meetings are seated events, so places are limited, and events can get pretty full. Please email Jules on jules@northbooks.co.uk to add your name to the list. Participation is free and if the book is purchased in advance from North Books a 10% discount is offered.
At North Books, 4 Castle Street, Hay-on-Wye on Wednesday 18 March, 5-6.30pm.
THE BOOK
The fourth novel up for discussion on Wednesday 18 March is The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov. This book is available from North Books at a 10% discount if you are joining the discussion.
Russia’s literary world is shaken to its foundations when a mysterious gentleman – a professor of black magic – arrives in Moscow, accompanied by a bizarre retinue of servants. It soon becomes clear that he is the Devil himself, come to wreak havoc among the cultural elite of a disbelieving capital. But the Devil’s mission quickly becomes entangled with the fate of the Master – a man who has turned his back on his former life and taken refuge in a lunatic asylum – and his past lover, Margarita.
Both a satirical romp and a daring analysis of the nature of good and evil, innocence and guilt, The Master and Margarita is the crowning achievement of one of the greatest Russian writers of the twentieth century.
